Folk, Fusion

Haize Arrosa

Haize-arrosa (translated as “the wind rose”) was formed in Berriz (Bizkaia) in 2022. Their last album "Magala" is deeply connected to women, tradition, and the passing down of knowledge. It speaks not only to the connection between different generations of women, but also to other forms of transmission: among friends, communities, collectives, and society at large. The songs are born from personal experiences, emotions, struggles, and concerns, and each carries a message that seeks to reach the listener through music: to listen and understand while enjoying, sharing, and weaving networks, building a path toward a freer and more conscious society.

Musically, the album draws from folk but is enriched by multiple influences that could be called “folk-fusion”: from Basque folk to rumba, country, and Balkan music. Unlike their previous work, the songs rely on acoustic guitar and violin, without electric instruments, creating a more natural and polished sound. While the previous album had a more electronic focus, Magala consolidates a purer and more refined folk style. This project reflects a moment of consolidation for Haize-Arrosa: following their first performances in town squares, they are beginning to find their place and pave the path they wanted to follow.
