In 2014, this group emerges from the combination of three uncommon instruments such as accordion, percussion and txistu (traditional Basque flute). In the origins of Zukan, the repertoire for this instrumental combination was non-existent. For this reason, its members decided to promote a project in collaboration with different composers, with the intention of creating a new repertoire.
To this day, Zukan has commissioned, revised and released more than twenty five pieces by national and international composers such as: María Eugenia Luc, Mikel Chamizo, Hugo Morales, Isabel Urrutia, Francisco Domínguez, Vassilis Filippou, Óscar Escudero, Helga Arias, etc. and has several ongoing projects with other leading composers.
Zukan Trio is currently one of the most consolidated groups on the contemporary music scene in the Basque Country. They have performed several concerts in renowned musical festivals such as The Donostia-San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, Bernaola Festival, Música en Segura Festival, BBVA Contemporary Music Cycle, Attacca Festival Basel, Kuraia Festival, Ensems Festival, etc.
Zukan recorded its first CD in March 2019 and is preparing the recording of the second CD, which will take place in July 2022.
