Folketan was formed in Sestao (Bizkaia) in 2010. Their music is mainly based on traditional Basque and Galician music, but they also draw on other styles: Celtic, Central European, Scandinavian, bluegrass…
Their repertoire includes original compositions and arrangements of traditional tunes. They have released three albums: “Hamaika entzuteko!” (2017), “Etxera berandu” (2025), and "Biraka ari" (2017) in collaboration with Birakari giants’ troupe.
Comprising nine members, they combine vocals with an extensive range of modern and traditional instruments: acoustic and electric guitars, bass, bouzouki, violin, accordion, alboka, ttun-tunn, txanbela, tarota, txirula, uilleann pipes, whistles, hurdy-gurdy, harmonica, drums and other percussions.
